It is our DDA lawsuit brought by the Coalition that resulted in the Venice Dell Project being heard by the City’s Transportation Commission (CTC). Had it not been for our brilliant legal team, the CTC would likely never have heard about the Venice Dell project.
The developers in their latest LATimes quote say the project being heard by the CTC is a “political ploy”… the only ploy is their attorney proclaiming to the CTC and the Coastal Commission that CTC’s oversight does not extend to a replacement of this City owned, heavily utilized, protected beach parking lot. That is simply not the truth – – it is 100% within the appointed authority and the obligation of the CTC to make the decision on this valuable piece of Venice real estate in the best interest of all Angelenos.

The law is clear that in 1977 the City Council delegated all authority with respect to off-street parking to the CTC. The Coalition’s legal team identified this required step as having been somehow missed for this troublesome project.
In the Coalition’s multi-pronged challenge, the most successful prong is the DDA lawsuit we filed, arguing that the project had not undergone this mandatory step in LA City code.
On June 4th 2024, in Superior Court, Judge Chalfant stated:
Both the City’s attorney and the developers’ attorney assured the judge at the DDA trial that the CTC’s decision is binding and would indeed take place. That is exactly what has finally happened and it never would have happened without our lawsuit.
